Quality

Eastland Memorial Hospital is committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients in a safe environment. We are proud participants in the following Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) quality initiatives:

Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Provider and Systems (HCAHPS)

A national standardized survey was developed for collecting information on patient's perspectives of hospital care. It was designed to produce comparable data between hospitals, create incentives for hospitals to improve their quality of care, and enhance public accountability in health care. For the first time, public information about patient experiences during hospital stays is now acceessible on the Hospital Compare website. This government-sponsored web site allows consumers to access side-by-side comparisons of patient satisfaction scores at hospitals across the nation.

The survey instrument captures opinions from patients on teh following critical aspects of care:
communication with doctors and nurse
responsiveness of hospital staff
pain management
communication about medicines
cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment
completeness of discharge information
overall rating of the hospital
willingness to recommend the hospital to others

The very first public reporting of this data occurred in March of 2008, and included survey data from patients discharged in October 2006 through June 2007 (9 months). Eastland Memorial Hospital scored above the national and state averages in virtually every area surveyed. Seventy percent of our patients surveyed gave our hospital a rating of 9 or 10 on a zero to ten scale, compared to the State average of 62% and a National average of 63%.

The next public reporting is scheduled for July 2008, and will include a full 12 months of survey data from October 2006 through September 2007.

QUALITY INDICATORS: IN-PATIENTS

Quality health care for people with Medicare is a high priority for the President, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). HHS and CMS began launching Quality Initiatives in 2001 to assure quality health care for all Americans through accountability and public disclosure.

Eastland Memorial Hospital is committed to improving the health of the communities we serve. We support CMS in their efforts to ensure quality and safety in healthcare. We have participated in the public reporting of data on the hospital quality indicators since their inception. Below is a list of the current quality measures we report on.
